How to update BIOS of Lenovo Thinkpad 13 in Linux

After the discovery of critical bugs in Management Engine of all newer Intel processors, it's quite recommended to update BIOS to fix this. Lenovo Thinkpad 13 however comes only with update utility for Windows and CD drive (which is not included in this notebook). So how to update the BIOS when are you using Linux?

First of all, you will need USB flash disk. Format it (for example with Gparted) to have GPT partition table and one bootable FAT32 partition (100MB is enough).

Then download BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10 (64-bit) from Lenovo PC support site. Run it with wine and only extract the files, do not run the utility.

All extracted files should be located in ~/.wine/drive_c/DRIVERS/Flash/R0JUJ07W.

Create folder Flash on your USB stick and copy all files to there. Then create folder EFI/Boot on the stick and copy bootx64.efi there.

And that's all for preparation! Now you can reboot, select your USB stick as boot device (F12) and you should see the screen of the BIOS flash utility.

UPDATE

Unfortunately flashing BIOS does not update Intel Management Engine firmware. There is available Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit), but this one is not usable in Linux.
